Our Board of  Directors

A Board of  Directors governs ISCHS. Our Board consists of ten members.  The Board sets our strategic directions and are ultimately responsible for the service’s operation. The day-to-day management of the service is the responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer.

All board members are selected on the basis of the possession of a range of skills and expertise considered necessary for effective governance, and who also have a strong commitment to the local area and particular knowledge of our client groups.

The Board of  Directors meets monthly. The CEO, CEO Assistant, Finance Manager and a representative from the Senior Management Team attend each meeting. The board also has a range of committees and working parties that meet regularly.

Brian Price

Board member since 2002

Special responsibilities: President, Chair of Executive Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology), Masters of Business Administration, Business and Community Services Manager of the Infectious Diseases Unit at The Alfred Hospital

Other local involvement: Brian has worked in the hospital system and at a community level in HIV/AIDS for 19 years. ISCHS is of particular interest, given its innovative range of health services many targeted to some of the most marginalised individuals within the community. Brian is also President of the AIDS Housing Action Group.

Susanne Provis

Board member since 2009

Special responsibilities: Vice President, Member of Executive Committee, Member of the Audit & Risk Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), Diploma of Social Sciences. Susanne has worked in community organisations and local and state governments as a program and service manager and policy adviser. She currently provides a consultancy service specialising in early childhood training and projects. Susanne brings her five years’ experience of managing a governance and management advisory service to the board.

Other local involvement:  Susanne has been active in the Port Phillip community for many years; she was involved in the establishment of the Community Alliance of Port Phillip and a long serving executive member of its committee of management. Her commitment to social inclusion and equitable access to services that support health and wellbeing underpins her contributions to the board.

Robyn Byrne

Board member since 1987

Special responsibilities: Member of the Finance and Investment Committee, Member of the Executive Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies), Policy Adviser for the Department of Immigration

Other local involvement: Robyn has been involved with community groups in the Port Phillip area for 20 years including 10 years on the executive of the South Port Legal Service. Robyn has an interest in policies that address multicultural and indigenous issues and re-dress health inequalities.

Frank O’Connor

Board member since 1987

Special responsibilities: Chair of Audit & Risk Committee, Member of the Finance & Investment Committee

Qualifications & experience: ARMIT, MACS, Former Mayor of the City of Port Phillip, GAICD

Other local involvement: Frank is currently the Emerald Hill Councillor of the City of Port Phillip (COPP). He served as Mayor of the COPP from 2009 to 2011 and was the Mayor of the City of South Melbourne from 1992 to 1994. He is currently a Board member of the Bob Maguire Foundation and Napier Street Aged Services. Frank sees ISCHS as vital in making health services available to all local people.

Michael McGartland

Board member since 1995

Special responsibilities: Chair of Quality & Review Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Science (Honours), Master of Science, MAPS, MACE, Registered Psychologist, Psychologist, Private Practice

Other local involvement: Michael has been a prominent board member for over 10 years. Michael’s strengths lie in his commitment and understanding of population health promotion.

Judith Klepner

Board member since 2004

Special responsibilities: Member of Quality & Review Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Arts, Diploma of Education, Graduate Diploma Inter Ethnic Studies & Education, Councillor of the City of Port Phillip, GAICD

Other local involvement: Judith is currently the Albert Park Councillor of the City of Port Phillip. She has been a keen community activist for many years. A long time union official, she has also worked in the non-government and higher education sectors in community development, policy and teaching roles. Judith's contribution to the board includes her commitment to community participation, social inclusion and the needs of multicultural community members.

Eddie Micallef

Board member since 2006

Qualifications & experience: Eddie Micallef began working life as a Turbine fitter in the power industry and later moved on to become Occupational Health and Safety Officer for the AMWU. Eddie then served in the Victorian Parliament from 1983 –1999 during which he held numerous responsibilities covering Health, Industrial Relations, Workcover & Multicultural affairs.

Other local involvement: Eddie has a strong community involvement being former Chairperson of the Springvale Community Health Service where he became involved with drug issues and the links between a culturally diverse communities and illicit drugs.
Since leaving parliament Eddie has remained involved in Community initiatives and is current Chairperson of the Beacon Cove Neighbourhood Association and Deputy Chair of the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria.

Donald Park

Board Member since 2011

Special Responsibilities: Finance & Investment Committee

Qualifications & experience: At the beginning of Donald’s career, he started and ran his own company. Donald has worked in both the commercial and not for profit sector. He was a senior director and executive of many multi-industry and multi-country businesses. He helped establish and was the Executive Director of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, based in Switzerland. He was also Chairman for Victoria and a National Director of the Smith Family and the Chairman of the Epworth Medical Foundation.

Other Local Involvement: Consumer representative on the Royal Melbourne Hospital’s Cancer and Infection Medicine Quality and Patient Safety Committee, consumer representative on the Monash University/Alfred Hospital’s Victorian Lung Cancer Registry Steering Committee.
 

Chris MacBean

Board Member since 2010

Special responsibilities:
Member of the Quality & Review Committee

Qualifications & experience:  Chris has worked in a number of fields and brings a rich range of skills and experience to the Board. He began his career in book publishing, worked in the public service and took over his family business as the managing director. He has been on the Executive Committee of the Victorian Hardware Retailers Association and President of the Kyneton Chamber of Commerce in addition to many other business-related associations.

Other local involvement: Chris has been involved with ISCHS services for a number of years as a client and contributing his experience as a consumer. He has developed a strong respect for the service as a whole.  Chris was eager to show his appreciation and ‘give back’ to the ISCHS through volunteering and has made a significant contribution as a consumer participant of the Community Participation Committee, Quality of Care Working Group, Partners for Better Health Working Group at ISCHS over the past few years. 

Mark Atkin

Board Member since 2011

Special Responsibilities: Treasurer, Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee, Member of the Executive Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Commerce, Masters of Business Administration, Certified Practising Accountant, Chief Operating Officer - ICT (Dept. Health).

Mark Atkin is a new Board Director. He works within the field of public sector Health Information and Communications Technology where he is responsible for a diverse range of business areas including governance, finance, human resources and organisational design.

Other local involvement: Mark felt that utilising his professional skills and experience on the Board represented an exceptional learning opportunity for him and provided the perfect vehicle to contribute to his local community.
