Our Board of  Directors

A Board of  Directors governs ISCHS. Our Board consists of ten members.  The Board sets our strategic directions and are ultimately responsible for the service’s operation. The day-to-day management of the service is the responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer.

All board members are selected on the basis of the possession of a range of skills and expertise considered necessary for effective governance, and who also have a strong commitment to the local area and particular knowledge of our client groups.

The Board of  Directors meets monthly. The CEO, CEO Assistant, Finance Manager and a representative from the Senior Management Team attend each meeting. The board also has a range of committees and working parties that meet regularly.

Brian Price

Board member since 2002

Special responsibilities: President, Chair of Executive Committee and member of Finance & Investment Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology), Masters of Business Administration
Business and Community Services Manager, Infectious Diseases Unit, The Alfred Hospital

Other local involvement: Brian has worked in the hospital system and at a community level in HIV/AIDS for 19 years. ISCHS is of particular interest, given its innovative range of health services many targeted to some of the most marginalised individuals within the community. Brian is also President, AIDS Housing Action Group.

Michael McGartland

Board member since 1995

Special responsibilities: Vice President, Chair of Quality Review & Planning Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Science (Honours), Master of Science, MAPS, MACE Registered Psychologist
Psychologist, Private Practice

Other local involvement: Michael has been a prominent board member for over 10 years. Michael’s strengths lie in his commitment and understanding of population health promotion.
 

Robyn Byrne

Board member since 1987

Special responsibilities: Member of Finance & Investment Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies)
Policy Adviser, Department of Immigration

Other local involvement: Robyn has been involved with community groups in the Port Phillip area for 20 years including 10 years on the executive of the South Port Legal Service. Robyn has an interest in policies that address multicultural and indigenous issues and re-address health inequalities.

Frank O’Connor

Board member since 1987

Special responsibilities: Member of Finance & Investment Committee

Qualifications & experience: ARMIT, MACS
Mayor of the City of Port Phillip

Other local involvement: Frank is currently the Mayor of the City of Port Phillip and was the Mayor of the City of South Melbourne from 1992 to 1994. He is currently a Board member of the Bob Maguire Foundation and Napier Street Aged Services. Frank sees ISCHS as vital in making health services available to all local people.

Eddie Micallef

Board member since 2006

Special responsibilities: Member of Quality Review & Planning Committee

Qualifications & experience: Eddie Micallef began working life as a Turbine Fitter in the power industry and later moved on to become Occupational Health and Safety Officer for the AMWU.

Eddie then served in the Victorian Parliament from 1983 –1999 during which he held numerous responsibilities covering Health, Industrial relations, Workcover & Multicultural affairs.

Other local involvement: Eddie has a strong community involvement being former Chairperson of the Springvale Community Health Service where he became involved with Drug issues and the links between a culturally diverse communities and Illicit Drugs.

Since leaving parliament Eddie has remained involved in Community initiatives and is current Chairperson of the Beacon Cove Neighbourhood Association and Deputy Chair of the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria.

Judith Klepner

Board member since 2004

Special responsibilities: Member of Quality Planning & Review Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Arts, Diploma of Education, Graduate Diploma Inter Ethnic Studies & Education
Councillor at the City of Port Phillip

Other local involvement: Judith has been a keen community activist for many years. A long time union official, she has also worked in the non-government and higher education sectors in community development, policy and teaching roles. Judith's contribution to the board includes her commitment to community participation, social inclusion and the needs of multicultural community members.

Jonathon Kruger

Board member since 2007

Special responsibilities: Member of Quality Planning & Review Committee

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Masters of Public Health
Manager - Policy and Communications Division, Australian Physiotherapy Association

Other local involvement: Jonathon worked as a clinician within the public health system for a number of years. More recently he has undertaken senior advisory roles in various organisations which involved developing public health policy in areas as diverse as environmental health, men's health, chronic disease management and the health workforce.

Jo Simsa

Board member since 2009

Qualifications & experience:  Bachelor of Arts (Honours - Soc/Pol),  Immigration Law VIARC
Training Officer DE, IR

Other local involvement:  Jo is an active member of her local community.  She is a member of the U3A Management Committee, the Community Participation Committee at ISCHS, Afghan Australian Development Organisation, Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project, and Residents’ Committee of Community Health.

Glenn Staunton

Board member since 2009

Special responsibilities: Member of Finance & Investment Committee; member of Quality Review & Planning Committee.

Qualifications & experience: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, Graduate Diplomas in Applied Psychology and Educational Administration. 
Registered Psychologist. 

Glenn has worked as a teacher, manager and leader in the education, welfare and business fields and currently conducts a private practice as a business consultant.
 
Other local involvement:  Glenn is a community member of the Port Melbourne Children’s Hub Steering Committee, an active member of the City of Port Phillip’s Friends of Suai (Timor-Leste) friendship group and is currently Chair of Cabrini Health’s Human Research Ethics Committee. 

Glenn was also a one time member of the Army Reserve and member and chair of an agency supporting people with disabilities.  Glenn has an interest in developing policies and practices that support innovative health services, increase community participation and build social inclusion.
