Our culture

We recognise that a positive organisational culture is essential as it provides personal satisfaction for our staff, promotes emotional and physical well-being and generates high morale.

Organisational culture at ISCHS

Our organisational culture is driven by teamwork, consultation and inclusivity. The motto “a healthy and inclusive community” applies not only to our clients but also to ourselves.

As one of our staff noted, “The ISCHS ‘glue’ is its passion for improving the communities’ health and well-being.  I have experienced this and lived it over many years in service and partnership with the Inner South Community Health Service. Clients and consumers are the reason for our existence and this is never forgotten”.

Recently we decided to formally measure and identify our organisational culture using The Organisational Culture Inventory (OCI).

Key findings suggest that:

  • Our overall culture is positive and constructive, rating highly on Humanistic-Encouraging and Affiliative scales. This means that staff are supportive and co-operative with each other and demonstrate a high level of commitment to their roles and client outcomes.
  • Our culture is more friendly, open and flexible than 75% of other organisations.
  • Compared to other health organisations across Australia and New Zealand, our culture has a strong element of encouraging people to pursue a standard of excellence.

Going forward

Our management and leadership team will continue to support and invest the necessary time, money and resources needed for its staff and clients to prosper in its current work environment. 

Recruiting staff who share the same values is also critical to our culture.
