Our history


ISCHS was formed through an amalgamation of three health centres in 1993, including St Kilda Community Health Centre (registered 1983), South Port Community Health Centre (registered 1986) and Prahran Community Health Centre (registered late 1980s).

Some our historic moments include:

1993

Inner South Community Health Service was officially incorporated on October the 8th 1993.


1994

The first ever Winter Breakfast program (run by the Mental Health Team) was launched at in the South Port Centre Community Room.

1996

Dental services at the Prahran centre commenced with two clinics operating as of February 1996 year. 1996 was also the year of the Prahran site refurbishment.


1998/1999

The service received a Public Health and Development Award for its outstanding work with transient families living in private hotels.

2000

ISCHS assumed management of the 10 Inkerman Street St Kilda (the site of the former Prostitutes Collective of Victoria).


2002

August 2002 saw the renovated site of 10 Inkerman Street open to the public, providing health services to sex-workers, the homeless and other marginalised clients of the local community.


2006-2007

The Southport site redevelopment (funded through the State Government of Victoria) was finished in late 2006. This site now has four dental chairs, improved facilities and more office space for staff.

As we progress into our forteenth year, the service continues to achieve its vision of a healthy and inclusive community.
